Dr Martinez-Herves received her MD in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Santiago de Compostela, in Spain. She completed her specialist training in General Psychiatry in May 2012 at the University Hospital of Ferrol, including Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
After finishing her specialist training she was one of only 5 psychiatrists selected in Spain by the Fundacion Alicia Koplowitz to complete a 2-year advanced placement in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Imperial College London. Since then she has focused her career in the field of Child and Adolescent psychiatry, in particular acute mental health in adolescents.
Having a specialty in adult psychiatry has also helped during her career – as the experience in both Child and Adolescent psychiatry and General psychiatry gives her the possibility to think about the person as a whole, and to make better decisions regarding diagnosis and treatment.
