Dr Nigel Tunstall

Consultant Psychiatrist

Dr Nigel Tunstall has extensive experience in psychiatry going back over 25 years. His higher professional training on the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) scheme culminated in CCSTs in General Adult Psychiatry and Old Age Psychiatry—and thereafter he worked for many years there as a Consultant Psychiatrist.

He has conducted research into psychiatric disorders and underlying processes—drawing on genetics, neuroimaging and psychopharmacology approaches—that has been published in internationally recognised journals such as Science, Nature Genetics, Neuropsychopharmacology, and the British Journal of Psychiatry.

Dr Tunstall can assess and manage any psychiatric presentation from age 18 upward, including mood and anxiety disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders (ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder), psychosis, relationship problems, personality difficulties, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, cognitive impairment (e.g., memory difficulties), and neuropsychiatric disorders—and has a special interest is the psychopharmacological treatment of mood and anxiety disorders and attentional problems. He remains intimately concerned with both the neurobiological understanding of complex traits and a humanistic understanding of people.
